Positionality Statement

My work in theater is cultivated by my identity as a queer, AFAB, non-binary, asexual, aromantic, fat, formerly religious, white person with a master's degree. My perspective is further influenced as the youngest of two children raised by a single working mother and a lower class household. I have been further shaped by my experiences working with nonprofits, local, international, and educational theater groups, and by my current position as administrative professional at a private university. These identities and experiences have shaped how I perceive systems of power, climate change, systemic racism, capitalistic injustice, and white supremacy, and my daily interactions with others. I acknowledge that I am not an expert in all cultural lived experiences; instead I commit to practicing cultural humility. I recognize the hierarchy of power inherent in my whiteness and perceived sex and strive to remain mindful of their influence and the space I occupy. I lead with my strengths as a caregiver and experimenter along with my flexibility to adapt to my surroundings. I remain committed to ongoing self-education and to leverage my positions to foster spaces devoted to curiosity, equity and growth.
